Art Dubai Trip

On 17th of March 2011, we (Corporate Communications Year 2) went to the Art Dubai event at DIFC with the Apllied Communiction students, our teachers, and supervisor. The Art Dubai event was held from 16-19 of March. The purpose of the visit was to explore the art galleries available as it was a chance of a life time to gaze at the diverese art pieces done by popular artists.

What first caught my attention when I arrived was the many and different art galleries available and some of the art pieces that were displayed outdoors. The first art piece that attracted me and I went to see was a vintage car that's carrying tons of luggage of a traveler. The art piece was done in 1975 by a Lebanese artist.

This is the plate number

One of the galleries that our art teacher communicated with was the Opera gallery which is an exhibition that exposes their work all around the world like Paris, Monaco, Singapore, New York, and Singapore. Opera gallery was it's first time to present it's living masters in the Middle East.

The painting "Girl in Purple" was one of beautiful paintings in the Opera gallery. The painting for sure has a meaningful story behind it about the painter or someone they know. What's interesting in this painting is that the whole portrait is in white and black while the clothes are purple. In addition, a slight color of yellow and red is added to the girl's face.

ZHANG Xiaogang (1958-)
Lithograph, edition of 130
120 x 80 cm - 47.2 x 31.5 in.

Another painting and living master that attracted me was "Fighting". The painting was displayed at the Opera gallery and is considered one a the popular and main paintings there as it's displayed on the gallery's lookbook. In my opinion, the painting is very strong because it shows men at a war who are laughing and are surrounded by airplanes and bombs.

YUE Minjun (1962-)
Lithograph, editiion of 130
80 x 120 cm - 31.5 x 47.2 in.
